The sweetest thing.

Friday, January 30, 2009

Please disregard my previous post.

After seeing on both my friend Missy's blog and my pretend friend MckMama's blog the story of sweet baby Tuesday, I will GLADLY get up 10 times a night to console a perfectly healthy baby.

Sometimes it is hard to remember how lucky I am to have a healthy, energetic baby.
It is easy to take these things for granted.
Tonight I will hold Dixon extra long when he wakes up. :)

Please go to Tuesday's family blog and pray for them, as they need it today.

They learned that they will be going home from the hospital today, knowing that there daughter's tumor has doubled in size.

1999 vs 2009

Many of you know I have began teaching at the same high school I attended for 4 years. Sometimes it is a little hard to remember that I am now a teacher...not a student. To my dismay no one wants to talk to me by the drinking fountain, there is no one running up to tell me the latest news, I do not have a locker, and I am not surrounded by 100 of my closest friends daily. It is a blast, however, to work with many of my old teachers and get to know them as people rather than teachers. Let's take a look at how things have changed for me in the past 10 years.

1999- I was a 10th grader in high school (ahhhh the good life.)
2009- I am TEACHING 10th graders at the same high school I attended.

1999- I got my driver's license and my first car, Leon the Neon.

2009- Have I been driving for 10 years? Sick.

1999- My biggest worries were what I was going to wear to school, how I could get to the mall next weekend and who would sit by me on the bus.

2009- My biggest worries (the condensed version) are the economy, my family's health, my auto/student/home loans, giving enough time to all areas of my life, ect ect ect.

1999- I was taking English 10 with Mrs. Wildin as my teacher.

2009- I am co- teaching with Mrs. Wildin in English 10.

1999- Not one kid had a cell phone...well maybe one, but it was reminiscent of Zach Morris'. Note passing was the way to go.

2009- Every single kid has a cell phone permanently attached to their fingers as the ferociously type between classes, and I have not caught one single note!

1999- I babysat occasionally...very occasionally.
2009- I have a son, who I am responsible for 24 hours a day 7 days a week!!!

1999- I hadn't quite convinced Adam yet, that I was going to be the love of his life...but I was working on it!
2009- We have been married for 1.5 years and have a beautiful baby!

1999- I was playing basketball, volleyball, soccer, and attempted golf.

2009- I am able to watch my baby brother and sister in all of their activities...and let them know to enjoy it, it will be over before they know!

1999- I was in love with Hello Kitty, Britney Spears, anything pink, celebrity gossip, reading magazines...ect...

2009- Ok...I guess not EVERYTHING changes...:)

In the blink of an eye

Alternately titled SOS!

I am seeking the help of my fellow bloggers...
I got a new camera from my lovely husband for Christmas.
There is one problem though...
The flash must be longer than on our other camera.
We often end up with pictures like this...

or this...

or sometimes this...

I have tried the various settings, but the flash always seems to catch Dixon with his eyes closed.

Is there another option, rather than no flash???

I am confident that someone out there in the blogosphere will be able to help with my situation!
If MckMama were to reciprocate my stalker status, I know she would know just what to do!

Do you ever...

...feel like you are starring in a Amelia Bedelia book?

You know, the crazy maid who messes everything up. She takes simple tasks WAY too literally and ends up with a HUGE disaster. For Example...

Told to dust the furniture, she throws talcum powder all over it. Asked to dress the chicken, she sews it an outfit. She makes sponge cake by mixing the cake batter with real sponge. However her kind employers are always eager to forgive sweet Amelia.

Sometimes I feel as if I am the star of my very own Amelia Bedelia book. This feeling has dramatically increased since becoming a mother. I feel like I am learning as I go, or letting the plane fly itself. Case in point.

One night I was at my mom's house. Dixon had a poop-splosion. When my mom saw the sights of this she said, "I used to call those bath time diapers." I asked her to elaborate more on what a "bath time diaper" is exactly. She said it was a diaper so bad, that it required a bath.

What a great idea Amelia (Kendra) thought! Then there would be little to no clean up.

So...the next time Dixon had one of his poop-splosions I decided I would try the new "bath time diaper" method. I put the poopy baby right into the bath tub...feces and all. To my dismay the feces did not go down the drain, but was floating around the tub. Thus Dixon was more dirty than when we started off!

When I called Grandma Wendy to tell her that her strategy was way off...She informed me that I was suppose to clean the baby and THEN put him in the bathtub...

Silly Amelia Bedelia.

San Fran....

Dixon's Auntie Rachel sent him this shirt when he was just a little baby...now it fits him perfect!
I'm sure Dixon will love San Francisco just as much as his mama does. I am so excited for the first time Rachel and I will be able to take him to The Rock...and my fav China Town!
It was ten years ago when Rachel and I were sitting by each other in Spanish class. She was too afraid to ask for my picture and I was too afraid to ask for hers...But one day we connected over plastic jewelry with rhinestones and we were never the same. We lived exactly 286 steps away from each other and wore out the path between our two houses.
It has been over a year now since we have seen each other and my heart aches...;(
She is coming back home this Spring or Summer to meet Dixon and laugh it up with his mama!
We love you Rach!!

Fine at nine!

Today is Dixon's BIG 9 month birthday!
We took him in for his check up this afternoon and he had to get 2 shots...but he is a trooper and only cried for a minute...and now is back to his mad man self...
I had the usual list of 378 questions...
Does he eat enough?
Does he #2 enough?
Do I really have to let him cry it out?
Why cant I get any snot with the snot sucker?
ECT ECT ECT

The good news is he is growing strong!

Here are the stats:
18.03 lbs (25th %ile)
29.5 inches (85 %ile)

7 teeth

1 side of his head getting curls...

And of course, as always, he is PERFECT from head to toe!

Not Me! Monday

I did not spend 1.5 hours wandering aimlessly around TJ Maxx yesterday. My mom had Dixon and I had just dropped off Max at his house. It was 1.5 hours of retail bliss. :)

We do not have 467 toys strung around our entire house and Dixon does not choose to play with spoons, cords, remotes, dog toys/bones, ect...

I did not have to stand up and go to the back of the church 3 times (and my mom once) because Dixon would NOT sit still and kept begging (grunting) to be put down on the ground to crawl around!

I did not have a dream about MckMama and her MSC. In my dream I was not at there house chatting it up with MckMama and helping her with her MSC. That would be borderline stalker.

I did not get excited for the new Real World season that started last week. No, I am 25 (too old to even apply), a mother and do not spend my nights watching reality TV, especially not MTV.

Phew...Glad that is off my chest...Do you need to confess? Write your own! Or just head on over to MckMama's blog to see what hundreds of others are confessing!

Question.

Will I ever get tired of looking at photos like this one?

I hope not.

Have you met me?

If so, this post will not surprise you.

I am a co teacher in an English 10 classroom. The English teacher starts every day off with a joke for the kids. Yesterday she asked me to read the joke at the begining of class...
for 28 16 year olds...

The first line read "Why the U.S. trails other countries in math..."

I read "Why the U.S. trials other countries in math..."

I didn't stop there...

I said, "Is this the same one you read this morning? Was it about a trial?" It seemed like I said trial 847 times. Then it clicked, "OH... TRAILS!" The class roared with laughter and I ended up being the joke of the day...

Standard.

You be the judge...

From the very first time I saw Dixon I have thought that he looks just like his dad...
However now I can see a little of each of us...

Here is a picture of Adam at 9 months...

What do you think!?!?!

Double Trouble!

This is Dixon with his cousin Tristan (my step brother Chad's son). Tristan LOVES it that Dixon has "hair like me!" as he says it! Grandpa Don has BIG plans for these two next summer which include many trips down to the river and rides on the four wheeler! Dixon and Tristan are hoping that the plans also include the purchase of a pony...a strawberry blonde one, please! :)

Happy New Year!

Buddies ;)

We rang in the new year with our two favorite boys Dixon and Maxwell.
Max came to stay for an overnight, we went out to eat at Outback and we were home by 6:00 and all asleep by 9:00. Now that's my kind of night...Dixon woke me up at 1:00 to tell me Happy New Year and with a bottle went right back to sleep...The night was perfect!

It is so much fun to see Max play and interact with Dixon as Dixon gets older and is able to do more things. Max loves to help and to be called my helper! :) They even got matching Star Wars shirts today...per Max's request! ;)

Important information...
Dixon has gotten his lucky number 7th tooth! And will be 9 months old in 12 days! YIKES!
